A look back at the JSC SBC Inaugural Meeting, September 30, 2014
In January 2014, JSC’s Small Business Office sent an email to over two dozen small businesses inviting their participation in a “Small Business Roundtable Redo” retreat. The day-long Retreat was held on February 7 on-site at NASA JSC. The idea was to revamp the existing JSC Small Business Roundtable, which had lost momentum over the years, with new membership, fresh ideas, a new structure, and vision.
Word spread, and the room was packed when over 40 companies sent representatives to that retreat. Clearly, the Small Business community was interested in a strong, vibrant organization representing our interests and acting as a resource through which to interact with NASA/JSC. At that February meeting, a Mission Statement was drafted, and a Tiger Team, led by volunteers, was chartered to develop a structure and operating concept. For the next few months, the Tiger Team worked together to hammer out the details. On May 30, 2014, the JSC Small Business Council Executive Leadership Team (ELT), made up of 15 small businesses of all socioeconomic categories, held its first official meeting.
The Small Business Council held its Inaugural Meeting on Tuesday September 30, 2014 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Space Center Houston, Houston Texas. There was an evening networking reception following the meeting at SCH from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Registration was limited to the first 100 and open to 2 representatives per company.
